THE HISTORY

There are business stories that arise from a thirty-year friendship, from a shared intuition, and from that distinctly Italian ambition to showcase excellence in the language we know best: that of taste, beauty, and genuine, authentic, and vivid hospitality.

This is how Il Marchese takes shape, the project of Davide Solari and Lorenzo Renzi, friends since school days and guardians of a shared vision that has its roots in Roman tradition, carrying it with them into the world, uniting heritage and vision, tradition and international outlook.

THE NAME

The name Il Marchese is freely inspired by the famous film “Il Marchese del Grillo” starring Alberto Sordi, with the desire to blend two very different souls to create a unique space. The first is that of the carbonaro, a typical commoner of the time, belonging to society’s poor class, who usually spent time in taverns after work, enjoying wine and genuine food, with traditional dishes, simple, with bold flavors prepared by housewives. The second is that of the nobleman, belonging to the wealthy minority in contrast to the common people, who spent his days celebrating in bourgeois villa parlors with long and lavish lunches, sipping high-quality wines and liquors.

THE CONCEPT

The concept of Il Marchese is indeed now strong and recognizable wherever it is established. Its uniqueness lies in being a contemporary Roman cuisine establishment with signature mixology and amaro bar (Europe’s first amaro bar) combined with the authentic glamour of period interiors. Its locations have now become indicators of tourist destinations: all new openings position themselves as new contemporary houses of taste with an authentic and replicable Italian style of dining and hospitality.
